A night out, a car towing and $500 later...

Oslo has some well known musicians coming into Norway. Last week it was Lana Del Rey, Mumford and Sons and Ellie Goulding. This week, 3 days of Bieber Fever had hit Oslo.

Anyways, last week Arild, I and some friends went to Oslo for the Mumford and Sons concert. The concert was great, by the way and since this was Mumford and Sons' first concert in Norway, I really hope they make an effort to come back! If you've seen the video to I Will Wait then you've seen exactly what their concerts are like.

Our day went great up until the point of finding our car. We had parked outside the University of Oslo and arrived there around 8 or so. My husband had misread a sign and assumed we were allowed to park there and he thought before 6 PM there would be road work and we were allowed to park there afterwards. With there being other cars parked at the time we arrived, that led him to think it was okay. Apparently not. He asked the road workers who were nearby what happened to the cars parked in that area and we were told they were towed and given directions to the towing company. About 45 minutes of subway and walking later, we found the car and had to pay an enormous $500 for the towing fee. My husband was really mad at himself, but I tried to reassure him of all the many stupid things I've ever done, I'm pretty sure I've done something much worse than misread a sign and get a huge towing fee.

Just a couple of months ago, we received a parking ticket, but the price wasn't too steep. This has at least brought my attention to the parking in Norway vs. parking in America because there seem to be a large amount of specified parking places in Norway, whereas there are huge parking lots in America. Another point in the parking issue is a lot of cities in America were probably built post-car era so they've been built to accommodate the thing on four wheels we spend so much time in. In Norway many cities are old and things are just more scattered, so parking regulations have to be put in place.

Anyways, regardless of our ginormous towing fee, we had a great time in Oslo listening to the wonderful sound of folk rock. :-)
